Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is a small island located only a few hours by boat from Athens.  There is an airport as well and from Mykonos you can easily reach many other islands by boat.  Nearby within a 1 hour trip you will find Amorgos, Tinos and Paros.

There are many layers to this island and its history but I will not bore you with the details; only that it is a playground for the rich and famous, the nightlife is world renowned and shopping is not unlike a visit to a miniature Milan or New York.

Going to the beach on Mykonos means visitng crystal clear European Blue Flag Beaches, most fully functional for tourism and others barely touched and hidden away.  Platys Yialos is the largest beach, known as a more family oriented area with several shops, restaurants, hotels and watersports.  Ornos is the elite beach where 5* hotels overlook the sea.  There is the famous beach of Agios Ioannis where the movie Shirley Valentine was filmed.  Here you will find the only hotels on the beach that have a view of the sunset and the sea.  Agios Iannis is also home to the famous twin chapels.  Paradise beach is known as the party beach with water sports, scuba diving, two vibrant beach bars with restaurants and a camping facility.  From Paradise you can walk to Agia Anna, Paranga and if you are an experienced hiker, you can make it all the way to "Super!"  Super Paradise and Elia beaches are most famous party and nude beaches.  Then there are the hidden gems:  Kalafatis where you can learn to windsurf, Agios Sostis and Panormos where you will barely find tourism and a few others known only by the locals.

For your stay, there are two main towns on the island and then there are the beach communities.  The main town called "Chora" is perfect for a short stay.  The town was built as a labyrinth to baffle pirates and still baffles tourists today.  When you get lost, just look for the water to find your way out.  In town you have several small museums, art galleries, the famous row of Windmills, the oldest church on the island Paraportyianni and the exquisite "Little Venice" area.  Here you will also find practical buildings such as the Town Hall, Post Office, outdoor movie theater and two taxi and bus stands.

The other main settlment is called Ano Mera and it is about a 20 minute drive from Chora.  Here you can visit the Monastary with its many intricate icons and the village square connected to it.  In the square you will find a small flea market on Sundays and every night there are many incredible restaurants to enjoy.

While on Mykonos you can visit the famous uninhabited island of Delos which is a museum in its entirety.  You can go for a glass bottom boat ride, a beach BBQ, a back trail jeep tour, lots of great hiking opportunities and visit one of the many churches on the island (there are 365!).

For your stay, Mykonos offers something for everyone.  There are traditional pension rooms and studios or apartments, every class of hotel from the most luxurious to the simple and traditional.  We tailor packages for our clients so you end up getting exactly what you want at a price you can afford.

Mykonos is also well known among the gay community for many years as it was one of the first places to offer commitment ceremonies for gay couples back in the late 1960's.  There are several bars, restaurants and hotels that cater mainly to our gay clientele.

Comprised of the local Myconians, Greek people from all over the country, and many tourists who have made their home on the island over the years, Mykonos is a universal melting pot of sorts and an island of incredible beauty, relaxation and excitement all in one.  Not to be missed!
